WHAT IS MICRODERMABRASION TREATMENT

Microdermabrasion is an aesthetic procedure that renews the overall skin texture and tone. It is minimally invasive and it is performed with a special applicator that has an abrasive surface used for sanding away the outer layer of the skin in a gentle way. After the procedure, the skin is rejuvenated and improved.

There are different microdermabrasion techniques. In one of them, fine particles of sodium bicarbonate or aluminum oxide are sprayed on the skin and then suctioned away. This technique delivers similar results as the technique with the abrasive surface.

The procedure can address different skin issues like acne scars, wrinkles, sun and age spots and others.

At Lucia Clinic, patients can get Diamond-tip microdermabrasion.

This handheld device is specifically designed to exfoliate the skin dead cells in a gentle manner. These dead cells can be a residue of different cosmetic products, oil production or environmental pollutants.  It also has a suction element that removes these dead cells right away.

The diamond-tip applicator moves in a raking motion and once the top layer of the dead skin cells is removed, the new and healthy layer of the skin is exposed.

The depth of the abrasion can be controlled with the applied pressure of the applicator and with the amount of time the suction is performed. This device is usually used on delicate areas of the face, such as the eyes.

The result of this treatment is glowing and healthy skin. ‍

Microdermabrasion should be avoided by patients who have warts, herpes outbreaks, deep scars, active acne, rosacea or eczema, recent sunburns, diabetes or auto-immune system illnesses.

This handheld device is specifically designed to exfoliate the skin dead cells in a gentle manner. It also has a suction element that removes these dead cells right away. The depth of the abrasion can be controlled with the applied pressure of the applicator and with the amount of time the suction is performed. • WHAT CAN SILKPEEL DERMALINFUSION ADDRESS

  • WHO SHOULDN’T GET SILKPEEL TREATMENT?

This procedure isn’t recommended for patients who have infections like cold sores or sunburns, rosacea and eczema. Patients who have auto-immune illnesses aren’t good candidates for SilkPeel and also if they suffer from diabetes, excessive scarring or keloids. This treatment can be used as a stand-alone procedure just for skin resurfacing or it can be combined with other treatments like laser therapies for example.

  • DOES MICRODERMABRASION HURT?

Generally no, it shouldn’t hurt. It is a gentle treatment that most patients describe as a grainy facial massage or a slight tugging on the facial skin. Since it is performed only on the top layer of the skin it shouldn’t be painful. If by any chance the patient does feel uncomfortable during the treatment, the skin therapist can reduce the pressure of the applicator.

  • WHAT DOES THE SILKPEEL DERMALINFUSION INVOLVE?

The procedure doesn’t require a lot of preparation and it is quite straightforward.

Before the treatment, the patient should avoid tanning beds and creams and Retin-A for a week. Also, the patient shouldn’t have other facial treatments like chemical peels prior to the treatment.

During the consultation, the skin therapist examines the patient’s skin and determines which solution would be the best for addressing the patient’s skin concerns.

During the treatment, the therapist uses the SilkPeel handpiece to exfoliate the top layer of the patient’s skin and suction the debris. Then the specific solution is infused deep into the patient’s skin. This solution is full of antioxidants, vitamins and other important ingredients. The result is clear, brightened and hydrated skin.

After the treatment, the patient should avoid too much sun exposure. If it is necessary for the patient to expose to the sun, he/she needs to apply a high SPF. It is recommended not to use retinol, acids, masks, peels, exfoliating agents and scrubs.

  • HOW LONG DOES THE TREATMENT LAST?

SilkPeel microdermabrasion lasts approximately 30-40 minutes. It can be easily fitted into a lunch break.

  • SILKPEEL DOWNTIME AND RESULTS

The treatment doesn’t require downtime and the patient can continue with their daily routine. The patient’s skin may be mildly red after the treatment because of the suction element.

The results are noticeable right away. The patient’s skin feels smoother and looks healthier. In order to achieve the best results and to maintain them, the patient can have one treatment a month.
