ADVANCED SKIN REJUVENATION

Microneedling is an aesthetic procedure that stimulates collagen production. It is performed with a handheld device that has fine needles on its tip. The needles create multiple, tiny wounds on the surface of the skin. These micro-injuries trigger the body’s own healing processes and eventually improve the overall state of the skin.

Microneedling is performed with Dermapen, an applicator that actually creates these micro-channels in the skin. The procedure is minimally-invasive and increases blood flow in the targeted area. Dermapen microneedling procedure firms the skin, reduces scars and wrinkles and improves the absorption of topical skin care agents.

How It Works

WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING?

Dermapen microneedling treatment stands out among other similar aesthetic procedures because it can safely treat delicate areas like around the eyes, lips and nose. Also, it doesn’t cause many side effects as other similar treatments might do.

Dermapen applicator can be fully customized depending on the patients needs. The micro-needles can be adjusted from 0.25 to 2.50mm depending on the target area. This way the treatment is fully controlled and thus safe and effective. The micro-needles don’t puncture the skin at a specific angle – they are administered vertically which doesn’t harm the skin surface and makes the treatment more comfortable.

So the patient can get only light superficial Dermapen microneedling treatment that addresses impurities, pigmentations or aging signs. Or the patient can decide to have deeper Dermapen microneedling treatment if he/she wants to address scars, large pores, wrinkles, loose skin or rosacea.

Dermapen microneeding treatment boosts collagen production by triggering the body’s ability to repair and regrow the skin cells after the micro-damage. Dermapen applicator can cause up to 1,300 micro-wounds a second which balances various skin conditions. The treatment is performed with controlled precision and triggers three phases of CIT mechanics. The first phase starts when the body releases its growth factors and triggers powerful fibroblast, epidermal growth and creates a better structure for the skin. The body’s tissue continues to produce growth factors and culminates with the production of I, III and IV types of collagen and elastin.

During the treatment, the scar tissue gets broken down and the skin becomes smooth and glowing. The procedure improves the overall skin texture, fills in lines and wrinkles and increases the firmness of the skin.

FREQUENT QUESTIONS

  • WHAT DOES DERMAPEN MICRONEEDLING TREATMENT INCLUDE?

Upon arriving at Lucia Clinic the patient is first consulted with the skin therapist. The therapist examines the patient’s face or other area and determines if this procedure is suitable for him/her. The therapist creates a customized treatment plan that will address the patient’s specific skin concerns. The therapist also determines how many treatment sessions are necessary to achieve the best results.

Before the treatment, the patient’s face or other area is carefully cleaned to remove any dirt, dead cells or makeup. This will increase the effectiveness of the microneedles and thus improve the treatment.

When the treatment starts, the therapist applies the Dermapen applicator to the patient’s skin in stamp-like motions and creates micro-wounds on the top layer and inner layer of the patient’s skin. The Dermapen device consists of ultra-fine needles that are sterile and made of stainless steel. While the therapist administers these micro-needles, mild surface bleeding might occur.

The treatment is performed in a highly controlled and safe manner. As these micro-wounds start to heal, the collagen starts to produce and this results in firmer and smoother skin. Boosted collagen production is one of the biggest benefits of this procedure. The skin becomes thicker and plumper and eventually, scars, fine lines and wrinkles and other skin blemishes are improved.

After the treatment, the patient gets a cooling mask on the targeted area to prevent inflammation.

In the end, the patient’s skin is applied with moisturizer in order to keep it hydrated. This ensures that the treatment will bring the best results.

  • HOW DOES DERMAPEN MICRONEEDLING FEEL?

Dermapen microneedling is minimally invasive and thus only minimally uncomfortable. Some patients don’t experience any discomfort. However, if someone is particularly sensitive to pain, the skin therapist can apply a topical numbing cream to ease the discomfort.

When Dermapen microneedling is done only superficially, it feels like vibrations of the patient’s skin. It might be accompanied by minor tingling and tenderness all depending on the targeted area, skin issue or skin thickness. Superficial treatments go from 0.3 to 0.5mm into the skin and are generally well tolerated. The skin therapist can start slowly with the microneedles and help the patient get used to punctuation. Also, the length of the needles can slowly be increased.

When Dermapen microneedling is done more deeply, the patient will notice it more but again tolerate it really well.

If necessary, deeper Dermapen microneedling can be done on just one area, for example a scar. If the patient desires overall skin firming, then microneedling should be done more deeply in the dermis because this is where the production of collagen is stimulated. In this case, tiny drops of blood will show on the surface of the patient’s skin. If the patient is having only superficial microneedling, there will be no blood drops on the skin.

  • ‍MICRONEEDLING SIDE EFFECTS

The treatment causes only minimal side effects. The patient may experience redness and dry skin after superficial microneedling, which will stop after a few hours.

After a deeper microneedling treatment, the skin may be tender, tingling, tight and hot, similar to a slight sunburn.

Some patients experience itching or flaking but this is a normal side effect after treatment and stops in a few days.

In this stage, it is very important to keep the skin well hydrated.

The patient is advised not to apply makeup for 24 hours post-procedure and also apply only oil-free makeup for a few days after 24 hours. It is not recommended to have strenuous exercises and go to steam rooms and saunas for 48 hours post-treatment.

  • DERMAPEN MICRONEEDLING DOWNTIME

The length of downtime depends on the depth of the microneedling treatment.

Generally, for the first 24 hours, the patient’s skin is red, swollen and might have tiny blood marks. During the first and second days, there is only mild redness, swelling, dryness and itching. During the third day, the redness is greatly reduced, as well as itching and tenderness. During the fourth day, the skin is dry and flaky. By the end of the first week, the skin should be fully recovered.

  • HOW MANY MICRONEEDLING SESSIONS ARE NECESSARY?

Every patient is different so the number of sessions can vary. It all depends on the patient’s expectations and desired results and on the area of the body which is being addressed. Fine lines and wrinkles like crow’s feet and forehead wrinkles, can be improved with a couple of sessions.

For deeper wrinkles or stretch marks it is generally recommended to have 4 to 8 treatment sessions for the best results. Each session should be 4 to 6 weeks spaced out. Some patients can benefit from a single Dermapen microneedling if their skin problems are not too severe.

After the initial series, the patient can have additional touch-up treatments once or twice a year to maintain the results and boost their usual skincare regime.

  • DERMAPEN MICRONEEDLING RESULTS

Some patients can see a significant improvement in their skin tone and texture after the first treatment session. The best results are visible several weeks after the session and the results continue to improve. The skin gets rejuvenated and improved as the new collagen builds up. The patients can see the effects of the treatment for up to 6 months post-treatment.
