WHY IS SCULPTRA SPECIAL?

As the skin gets more mature, it starts to look unhealthy, dull and tired. Sculptra is a dermal filler that restores the natural freshness of the face and works against the signs of aging.

The Sculptra treatment involves using fine needles to inject a unique solution in sub-dermal skin areas. Sculptra injectable solution consists of a special formula – microspheres created from poly-L-lactic acid. This is the main active ingredient of this special solution and it triggers the production of elastin and collagen deep in the skin. When Sculptra is injected into the skin these microspheres are absorbed and processed by the body and the final result is rejuvenated and youthful-looking facial skin.

WHAT IS POLY-L-LACTIC ACID?

This main ingredient of Sculptra dermal filler is responsible for plumping the sub-dermal and dermal layers of the skin. It provides volume, fills in wrinkles and fine lines and rejuvenates the face. When injected it immediately rejuvenates the face. This powerful chemical compound is used in many beauty products including anti-aging facial creams.

It has been scientifically proven that Poly-L-lactic acid boosts the production of elastin and collagen – very important proteins that keep the skin firm and structurally consistent. However, when the skin starts to get mature these proteins decrease and aging signs appear on the face. This potent component fights against the signs of aging at its very core.

WHAT CAN SCULPTRA TREATMENT ADDRESS?

Sculptra is designed to target skin concerns that are related to aging. It is versatile and can address different skin issues connected to volume loss and aging. The treatment stimulates the production of collagen and creates smoother, firmer and plumper skin. It can be injected in the middle of the face, or in the area from the cheekbones to the chin. Sculptra can treat the following skin issues:

  • Wrinkles and fine lines
  • Marionette lines
  • Lines around the mouth/smile lines
  • Nasolabial lines
  • Wrinkles on the chin
  • Hollow cheeks and temples
  • Wrinkles on the décolletage
  • Laxity of the skin
  • Dry skin
  • Uneven tone and texture of the skin

Sculptra can also improve facial symmetry, facial contours and acne scars.

The facial areas where the Sculptra dermal filler is injected are cheeks, around the eyes, chin, jawline and around the mouth and nose.

Sculptra treatment is brilliant in addressing these facial areas and skin issues and can be also called a liquid facelift. It provides amazing results without surgery or downtime.

THE BENEFITS OF SCULPTRA TREATMENT

This treatment is so versatile and can do so much for the skin. The results can be visible for two years which makes this dermal filler one of the longest-lasting ones.

It stimulates collagen and elastin production and prepares the skin for future aging factors. Natural collagen is much more effective in reducing the signs of aging than any other collagen facial cream. The collagen in the body continues to build up even after the whole poly-L-lactic acid has been absorbed and processed by the body. Some patients respond to this treatment better than others and enjoy the benefits even longer than 2 years.

The Sculptra treatment goes one step further regarding aesthetic enhancements. It softens the facial contours – it provides more volume to facial features. When injected along the lines of the bones in the face and in the area where the hollowness is most prominent, it softens the lines and provides a more youthful appearance. Sculptra treatment is an excellent solution for improving skin laxity and making thin skin firmer and thicker.

The treatment provides gradual results. It requires a bit more time to produce the results because the body needs sometime to metabolize the poly-L-lactic acid and to start with collagen production. But when the results start to be noticeable the patients enjoy their rejuvenated and naturally enhanced faces for a long time.

Another benefit of Sculptra treatment is that it can be combined with other aesthetic procedures. It can go along with Botox, chemical peels or microdermabrasion. The patient can discuss with the dermatologist about combining treatments in order to get all his/her aesthetic goals achieved.

Sculptra treatment will plump the facial appearance. Lucia’s patients are more than satisfied with the results of the treatment and feel more confident about their rejuvenated and restored beauty.

THE RESULTS OF THE SCULPTRA TREATMENT

Sculptra treatment is different than other injectables because it boosts collagen production in the period of 3 to 4months. Every patient is different and some notice the first results after the initial session. However, usually the patient can notice that his/her skin is becoming firmer and plumper after the first month post-treatment. The effects of the Sculptra treatment continue to show as the patient’s body increases collagen build-up.

The best results of Sculptra treatment are achieved with 3 treatments on average, spaced one month apart.

The patient can keep the new, refreshed appearance with additional touch-up treatments two years after achieving the desired goals.

After the final treatment session, the results can last for 2 years or even a bit longer.

FREQUENT QUESTIONS

  • HOW MANY AMPOULES ARE NECESSARY?

When getting dermal fillers, the amount of solution is carefully predetermined. The patient’s age and severity of skin issues are considered. For instance, if the patient is 30 years old he/she needs 3 ampoules, if the patient is 50, he/she needs 5 ampoules and so on.

The number of treatment sessions is also determined by the number of ampoules. Usually, only two ampoules are injected during one treatment session, so a patient who is 50 years old needs 3treatments sessions to get the best results.

  • WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR SCULPTRA TREATMENT?

Patients who can benefit from Sculptra treatment are the ones who wish to restore volume to hollow cheeks or temples and have developed age-related skin concerns. The treatment is suitable for both men and women between 25 and 75 years old.

  • WHO SHOULD AVOID SCULPTRA TREATMENT?

Sculptra is not a good choice for patients who wish to see immediate results.

Also, patients who suffer from some autoimmune diseases like multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and vasculitis, should avoid this treatment. It is important to consult with the dermatologist about the patient’s medical conditions prior to the treatment.

Pregnant and breastfeeding ladies are not good candidates for this treatment, as well as patients under 18.

If the patient has some current skin issues like rashes, outbreaks, cold sores, cysts or other skin inflammations should wait until these skin conditions pass.

If the patient is prone to overgrown scars or keloids and hypertrophic scars or mild overgrown scars he/she should consider a different treatment. In the case of these skin issues, the body produces too much collagen at the healing points so this would not be beneficial for the patient.

If the patient is currently taking blood-thinning medications like aspirin, or anti-inflammatory medicines, he/she should discuss with the dermatologist whether Sculptra is a suitable treatment.

Even though Sculptra is a safe treatment it is not suitable for patients who are allergic to any of the ingredients in the formula.

  • WHAT DOES SCULPTRA TREATMENT INVOLVE?

When the patient arrives at Lucia Clinic, he/she is first consulted with the dermatologist. The dermatologist examines the patient’s skin and discusses with the patient his/her concerns and aesthetic goals. The dermatologist determines how much volume has patient’s skin lost, the severity of wrinkles and the degree of skin’s laxity.

When the dermatologist confirms that Sculptra treatment is the right choice for the patients, he/she creates a customized treatment plan that will address the patient’s specific skin issues. The plan includes the location and the number of injections that the patient needs to achieve the best optimal results.

If the patient hasn’t used dermal fillers before, the dermatologists might request a simple allergy test to avoid the risk of complications connected to allergic reactions to the Sculptra solution ingredients.

There aren’t any particular preparations for the treatment. The dermatologist could only advise the patient not to take ibuprofen, aspirin and other blood thinners a couple of days before the treatment. This is just to lower the possibility of bleeding.

  • ON THE DAY OF THE SCULPTRA TREATMENT

The dermatologist maps the injection spots on the patient’s skin and cleans the treatment area. If the patient is uncomfortable around needles, the dermatologist can apply a topical anesthetic to ease the discomfort. Then the dermatologist uses very fine needles to inject the Sculptra injection beneath the patient's skin into the targeted areas. When the dermatologist has finished with injections, he/she massages the treated area to make sure that the solution is evenly distributed and also to prevent nodules and lumps from appearing.

The treatment time may vary, but generally, it lasts between 20 to 30 minutes.

  • DOWNTIME AND SIDE EFFECTS

After the treatment, there is little to no downtime. Most patients can continue with their normal daily activities, right after the procedure.

There are only mild possible side effects like swelling, bruising and redness of the injection points. This is only temporary and should resolve in a couple of days. Other possible sensations include mild pain, itching, bumps and tenderness.

Patients can apply cold packs to the treated areas in the first 24 hours to ease the sensitivities. Also, they should massage the treated areas for 5 minutes, for 5 days. It is not recommended to expose to excessive sunlight or tanning beds for a week after the procedure.
