1. WHAT CAN I FIND OUT FROM CELEBRITIES AND THEIR LIPOSUCTION STORY?
What’s awesome is that the shyness about revealing who had liposuction is finally over. Many celebrities openly share their experiences, before and after photos and other news about their liposuctions.
If we can say that celebrities are the ones who affect cultural changes, it’s a good thing that our society is finally becoming more open up to cosmetic treatments and plastic surgeries such as liposuction.
Let’s be honest – we all love reading about celebrities and their lives – nip-and-tuck cosmetic surgeries included. When they openly talk about it, liposuction becomes a real conversation – it’s like we are actually talking to them about their experience with liposuction and how it may have changed their lives.
So, after reading a post that Susan Sarandon had lipo, you immediately realize that liposuction has become demystified. And you start thinking – why don’t I have liposuction also and change my life for the better? And by this I mean, get the best version of myself.
WHAT HAPPENS IF WE DON’T TALK ABOUT LIPOSUCTION?
Well if you don’t hear any real stories about this plastic surgery, you may get a bit frightened and develop misconceptions about it. If you compare yourself to your celebrity idols, you might feel insecure because they look peach-perfect. In reality, celebrities weren’t born that way.
So, once you understand that, by listening to their stories about aesthetic treatments and plastic surgeries like liposuction, you start realizing that you can either accept the way you look or choose to have liposuction to tweak the body areas that bother you. Either way, you will feel less nervous and perhaps choose to have liposuction much easier than before.
WHO ARE THE CELEBRITIES THAT SHARED THEIR LIPOSUCTION EXPERIENCE?
Let’s talk now about these public figures who didn’t hold back when talking about their liposuction procedures. As I said already, their stories have really taken the veil of liposuction in Hollywood and the rest of the world.
So, they can also help you realize that if you get liposuction you won’t be ‘shunned’ by the rest of society and that it can really be your life-changing experience.
We already mentioned Susan Sarandon, a diva who is really aging gracefully. But she had liposuction under her chin and eyes to maintain that fresh and radiant look that she already has. These areas can age faster, so when you remove those unwanted fat pockets underneath your chin you immediately look rejuvenated.
Jamie Lee Curtis is a gorgeous lady – always has and always will be. But a little liposuction procedure helped her to keep that slender and contoured appearance.
Just imagine what liposuction can do for you – once you eliminate fat pockets from body areas that bother you, you instantly get a confidence boost, because you look your best.
Crissy Teigen is a beautiful supermodel that had trouble with fat pockets in her armpits – nothing that a little liposuction couldn’t solve for her.
So, if you have bra bulges, liposuction can help you remove them forever.
Jane Fonda, who is an Oscar-winning actress, had chin liposuction to keep that youthful appearance.
Chin liposuction can do so much for you – by eliminating accumulated fat underneath your chin, you can really return that younger look you once had.
NeNe Leakes simply wanted to tune up and be a better version of herself. Her liposuction experience was really a positive one, which meant so much to her fans. So, with liposuction, you don’t change who you are or your entire appearance – you just improve body areas that bother you and feel great.
Clay Aiken had chin liposuction to make his jaw more pronounced. So as you can see, liposuction is not just for ladies. It is a great fat-removal method for men who want to make their bodies more masculine and defined. So, men, don’t shy away from liposuction – become a better version of yourselves with little body tweaks.
Okay, all these mentioned public figures are A-listers, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t get liposuction yourself. If the cost is what bothers you, there are so many payment options today that you will certainly find one that fits your budget. All you have to do is discuss your payment with the plastic surgeon, and meet somewhere in the middle. It will be worth it.
HOW CAN CELEBRITIES EDUCATE THEIR FANS ABOUT LIPOSUCTION?
Simply by being open about it – which the mentioned public figures actually did. For instance, you can learn from your fans that liposuction is life-changing, but requires careful and devoted recovery.
Following your surgeon’s recommendations is crucial for the best results – the results that you will actually be satisfied with.
And you realize that all your fans who had liposuction actually took their recovery very seriously – and got the results that made them look as they wanted.
You may see the celebrity that you really love and follow on social networks and think – Okay she or he got liposuction and it was easy for her or him. But actually, it isn’t that easy because there isn’t a magic wand that speeds up their recovery – only devoted and careful aftercare.
So, celebrities can tell you real stories about their liposuction and inform you about their recovery period. This really means a lot to you – by following the recovery advice you will love your results as your celebrity does.
Another thing that you can find out from celebrities and their liposuction stories is that it is very important to go to a board-certified surgeon. This is the most important decision in your journey towards improvement with liposuction.
Find a surgeon who is experienced, artistic and trustworthy, and it will be a great journey.
Together you can decide which liposuction technique is best for your body concerns, how to accomplish your aesthetic goals and how to get real and beautiful results.
Now that we established that celebrities aren’t shy about their liposuctions and openly talk about it, let’s answer the questions they all had in their minds before liposuction and that you also surely might have.
2. WHAT IS LIPOSUCTION SURGERY?
Okay, imagine the scenario – you sweat in the gym all the time like crazy, but still those love handles or saddlebags keep staying stuck on your body. You think – forget about tight-fitting clothes. I just can’t wear them. And that’s the moment when liposuction can really help you. If you have googled it, then you are probably already familiar with the term liposuction, but let’s cover it again –
Liposuction is plastic surgery that eliminates or sucks out unwanted fat pockets from the body.
If you reached that point in your life when you realize that exercising and diet aren’t enough to give you that desired look, then liposuction is your answer. This plastic surgery enables you to achieve a smoother body shape. It can be done on almost all body areas, even on hard-to-reach ones, all thanks to science and the development of different less invasive liposuction techniques.
We can easily say that liposuction is one of the most popular cosmetic surgeries today, but it’s also quite misunderstood. Its main goal is to contour your body by getting rid of isolated areas of accumulated fat cells.
So, even though the majority of people think that liposuction is a weight loss treatment that will significantly lower the number on the scale, it actually isn’t.
You need to be close to your ideal weight and have fat pockets that are too stubborn to get lost in a traditional way, to be a good candidate for liposuction.
And after the surgery, you lose more weight by adopting a healthy lifestyle. So liposuction is a motivation or a trigger that helps you really take good care of yourself and maintain the awesome results you get with this plastic surgery.
You might have also heard that liposuction is referred to as a body contouring procedure. You can have it done under the chin, upper arms, breasts, buttocks, thighs, abdomen, calves and even on your face.
Bottom line is that –
Liposuction is great for body contouring, fat elimination and combination with other procedures.
To perform liposuction, your plastic surgeon uses special surgical tools, called cannulas. So, let’s just quickly explain –
WHAT ARE CANNULAS?
Cannulas are little instruments that your surgeon uses to remove fat and contour your targeted body area.
They come with different tips and sizes, all depending on which area you want to address. For example, if you are getting liposuction on your neck, your plastic surgeon uses a cannula that has a tip like a spatula – it nicely and precisely scoops up the accumulated fat in a horizontal way.
For breaking up the fat, your surgeon uses a slightly larger sized cannula that has a basket tip and for removing that fat he uses a straight-tipped cannula that is smaller and very delicate. They are designed in low profile because the surgeon is going for the fat and not your skin, nerves and other surrounding tissue.
Cannulas are of course blunt-tipped and not sharp because using sharp-tipped cannulas would simply be ridiculous and very dangerous.
REMEMBER: it’s very important to go to a plastic surgeon who knows his/her way around cannulas and never uses larger cannulas than 5 millimeters.
No matter how much fat the surgeon needs to eliminate, he/she needs to do it carefully, patiently and safely. That’s the only way the surgeon will avoid causing serious injuries to your body.
That liposuction in a nutshell – it helps you feel more confident and more attractive because it contours your body and brings you real and beautiful results.
3. WHAT DOES LIPOSUCTION DO TO YOUR BODY?
As mentioned above, liposuction can really be a life-changing experience, not only because it improves your body contours by getting rid of fat, but also because it motivates you to adopt healthy lifestyle habits. And since it is a body contouring surgery, it changes your body in many ways.
Let’s discuss how.
You already know that fat cells accumulate or grow in volume and size when you put on extra weight. However, with liposuction, you get rid of those undesirable fat cells in the body area that bothers you the most.
The amount of fat that the surgeon will remove depends on that specific area, how that area looks and how much fat it has accumulated. So, that area changes once the surgeon removes the fat – it becomes slimmer, tighter or nicely shaped. These results are permanent which is a huge plus for liposuction – but you need to keep a steady weight.
WHAT HAPPENS TO YOUR SKIN AFTER LIPOSUCTION?
Once you are done with liposuction, the skin on the treated area kinda molds itself to the new contours. Your skin shrinks in some parts to fit the volume of fat that is left in the treated area. So it’s awesome if your skin generally has good elasticity and tone because after liposuction it will easily adapt to your new contours and look smooth and tight.
On the other hand, if your skin has lost its elasticity or it’s thin, then it might look a bit loose after liposuction. You can easily solve this with skin tightening treatments that trigger the collagen production and help your skin become firm again.
WHY IS CONSULTATION WITH THE SURGEON IMPORTANT IN THIS CASE?
Because, during consultations, your plastic surgeon will carefully examine your skin in terms of elasticity and quality, especially in the area where you want your liposuction to be performed. Based on this evaluation, your surgeon will inform you how liposuction will affect your skin and if you will need additional skin tightening treatments.
One important thing that your plastic surgeon will tell you at consultation is that gaining weight after liposuction is a big no.
Since liposuction changes your body, it affects the way your body stores and distributes the fat you gained.
Although eliminated fat cells can’t regenerate or move to different body areas, newly gained fat cells will find their place to store themselves. So, the bottom line is that if you gain weight some of your untreated body areas will get larger than before and you won’t definitely like the way you look.
However, as we said, once you get liposuction and see your beautifully contoured body, you will be more than motivated to keep those results and actually enjoy this life-changing experience forever.
4. WHAT CLOTHES SHOULD I WEAR AFTER LIPOSUCTION?
After your liposuction surgery, you need to take some time off to recover. To save time, it’s a good idea to prepare everything you need before your surgery – clothes included.
Loosey comfy clothes are your choice for the post-op period.
Right after the surgery, you will have mild to moderate swelling in your treated area so you don’t want to wear tight clothes and make the swelling even worse. So, stack up loose shirts, pajamas, bathrobes and sweatpants for the first couple of days after liposuction.
While you are healing you need to feel comfortable so wearing loungewear will add up to your comfort a lot. And put all these clothes in one place that is easy to access – this will make your life easier in the first couple of days.
And once you feel better and fit enough to go back to work and other activities, you will wonder if you can wear tight clothes again like jeans or slim-fit shirts. It’s totally understandable that you want to show your newly shaped contours but be patient. Wait for 6 to 8 weeks before you start wearing those body-flattering clothes.
It’s more important to wear compression garments after liposuction, so read about it in the next chapter.
5. HOW LONG DO I NEED TO WEAR A COMPRESSION GARMENT AFTER LIPOSUCTION?
Compression garments are super important for your recovery after liposuction. They help you avoid complications and get those great results you are expecting. So don’t disregard the amount of time you need to wear a compression garment and you will be happy with the results.
Let’s discuss why.
The amount of time you need to wear a compression garment depends on the treated area and how extensive your liposuction was.
Your plastic surgeon will advise you on this, but generally, if you had tumescent lipo under local anesthesia, you can wear a compression garment for just a couple of days.
If you had more extensive liposuction under general anesthesia, then you need to wear a compression garment for 3 to 6 weeks. This means 24h every day, except when showering. After 6 weeks, you can wear it only while sleeping. And your surgeon can change the pressure of your garment at that time.
REMEMBER: Stay in close contact with your plastic surgeon while you’re wearing your garment because you need to report any unexpected pain issues or discomfort.
The pressure of your compression garment should be somewhere in the middle – not too snug and not too loose.
Your plastic surgeon will adjust your garment then according to your comfort – you need to be as comfortable as possible while healing. Only then you can look forward to awesome results.
WHY ARE COMPRESSION GARMENTS GREAT FOR RECOVERY?
Simply because they speed up your recovery – you don’t want to lose unnecessary time and get fit as soon as possible.
● They reduce swelling by preventing too much unnecessary fluid from accumulating.
● They help you with body contouring because your body easily gets used to the newly shaped contours. That’s why your final results will be awesome – smooth and tight skin and reduced risk of saggy and wrinkled skin. That’s a big plus, right?
● Garments also help reduce bruising because they press the blood vessels in the treated area and keep excess blood away from the surface of your skin where the bruises are most visible.
Consult with your plastic surgeon about the best compression garment for your recovery, wear it as advised and get the best results.
WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU DON’T WEAR YOUR COMPRESSION GARMENT AFTER LIPOSUCTION?
Only things you don’t want to experience during your recovery.
The worst thing – a longer recovery. And as we said, you want to recover as quickly as possible. Other nasty side effects that happen if you neglect your compression garment are unnecessary pain, excessive bruising and swelling, infection and others.
Also, if you don’t wear your compression garment, you may end up being unsatisfied with the results – ridges, wrinkles and contour irregularities are definitely the results you don’t want to happen.
So, be patient and wear your compression garment as instructed. It will definitely pay off.
6. WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT KINDS OF LIPOSUCTION?
This is a great question and the answer is even better. Since the science behind liposuction techniques has greatly developed, you can now choose different liposuction methods according to your aesthetic needs.
Let’s talk about this in more detail.
First of all, to find out which liposuction technique is the best for you, you need to have a consultation with your plastic surgeon.
It’s not the same if you want a full-body lipo or just a small localized area lipo.
Regarding this, there is
Tumescent or wet liposuction, which is the most common kind and usually the base of all liposuction. It involves the injection of solution made of local anesthetic, like lidocaine, vasoconstrictor like epinephrine and saline solution. Obviously, lidocaine prevents you from feeling any pain by numbing the area and epinephrine constricts blood circulation in the treated area and prevents excessive bleeding.
This solution is injected into the targeted area before liposuction begins – in some cases up to 3 times more than the amount of fat that needs to be suctioned out. What’s revolutionary about this liposuction is that it’s done under local anesthesia which greatly reduces recovery. And of course, it brings you awesome results.
Ultrasound-assisted liposuction is also an advanced technique. The surgeon uses ultrasonic vibrations to liquefy the fat and before it can be suctioned out. The surgeon uses a small cannula that emits these vibrations from its tip.
This type of liposuction is great for breaking down and removing thick or fibrous areas like the upper back. This liposuction needs to be done with great precision to avoid burns from ultrasound.
So, go to a board-certified plastic surgeon who has a lot of experience in performing it. You want the best results from your liposuction but you also want to stay safe.
Laser-assisted liposuction also needs to be performed with super precision. The surgeon uses laser energy to break down the fat before it is suctioned out.
This technique is great for delicate areas because it needs to be done with smaller cannulas. So, you can treat the chin, neck or face with this type of lipo.
There is a great benefit of this lipo technique – it tightens your skin by triggering collagen production. So you don’t have to worry about saggy skin after liposuction. It will be firm and nicely contoured at the same time.
There you have it. Once there was just traditional liposuction but today you can choose a more advanced technique to achieve your aesthetic goals.
7. WHICH LIPOSUCTION GIVES THE BEST RESULTS?
Now, this is a tricky question, because there are different types of liposuction that are used in different cases. The choice of liposuction technique that will bring you the best results depends on your aesthetic goals and the experience of your plastic surgeon (this should maybe go in the first place).
You see, the first thing you need to know is that there are different types of fat that vary according to the body area. You have some areas that have dense, fibrous fat and others that have softer or loose fat.
If you are a man and want to have gynecomastia liposuction surgery, your surgeon will tell you that the fat in your chest is quite fibrous and that it’s harder to eliminate fat from that area. That’s why laser-assisted or ultrasound-assisted liposuction can be a great option here, because it liquefies the fat before it suctions it out. This makes liposuction much easier to perform in this body area.
But you should go to a plastic surgeon who is very precise and experienced in doing these types of liposuction because they are very delicate. You don’t want to end up with contour irregularities or even worse – burns underneath your skin.
On the other hand, tumescent liposuction is popular, effective, less painful and most importantly very safe. It has a short recovery period and you can have it done just under local anesthesia.
Now, the reason why tumescent lipo gives you great results is that the tumescent solution, that is injected into the targeted area, fills up the fatty layer and causes it to swell and get firm. This really helps the surgeon to have better control when sculpting this area. Also, this solution reduces bleeding, swelling and pain. So, on the whole, it’s an awesome choice of liposuction that rarely causes any contour irregularities and brings you real results.
REMEMBER: in the end, it’s not just about the best liposuction technique. It’s more important who performs it.
So, the liposuction technique that will bring you the best results depends on your targeted area or the type of fat you want to eliminate. In any case, you need to consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon whose experience will guide you in choosing the best liposuction for your aesthetic goals.
8. WHO CAN GREATLY BENEFIT FROM LIPOSUCTION?
This is it. This is the crucial question – am I a good candidate for liposuction? Let’s discuss how you can find out.
So, as we said, liposuction is a plastic surgery that helps you get rid of fat deposits between your skin and muscles. You can get it in almost all body parts that are difficult to get sculpted with exercise or diet. It can help you get that ideal shape of abs or other contours.
But liposuction is not a weight loss treatment nor can it substitute healthy lifestyle habits like physical activity and proper diet.
You are a good candidate for liposuction if you are close to your ideal weight but have localized areas of stubborn fat that really bother you and make you feel less confident.
To see if you are a good candidate for liposuction you need to have a consultation with a plastic surgeon. He examines the targeted area in terms of skin elasticity and the amount of fat that needs to be extracted. And a plastic surgeon tells you if you need to lose a bit of weight before you can have liposuction.
Remember your safety comes first and if you need to lose weight to become a good candidate for liposuction that shouldn’t discourage you.
Exercising and proper nutrition are great for your overall health and if you are healthy you will be closer to being a good candidate for this surgery.
If you want to eliminate double chin or fat deposits from your neck, liposuction is a homerun. It contours your entire neck and firms your jawline – it makes you look younger and more attractive.
Another great area to tweak with liposuction is the abdomen and flanks. You especially get great results when you eliminate love handles because liposuction gives you that hourglass effect.
You can be a great candidate for liposuction if you want to get rid of fat rolls right above your breasts or in the bra line. Liposuction works like a charm in that case.
Also, the inner and outer thighs are awesome areas for liposuction because you get slimmer and more attractive legs and if you are left with a bit of loose skin, you can always solve it with RF skin tightening treatments.
So liposuction is an awesome choice for you because it will boost your self-confidence once you see how your newly shaped body areas look and you will instantly be motivated to keep those results. Liposuction can take years off your body, help you look youthful and get rid of body complexes.
9. WHO PERFORMS LIPOSUCTION AT LUCIA CLINIC?
To give you the answer right away – only highly-experienced, board-certified plastic surgeons.
Let’s see why this is important to you.
When you go to a board-certified plastic surgeon it makes a huge difference in the results and safety of your liposuction surgery.
You have to completely trust your surgeon because your body is in his or her hands.
Now, getting to the level of being a board-certified plastic surgeon is a pretty long way. To get there, plastic surgeons need to have a complete understanding of human anatomy. What’s more, plastic surgeons need to have a trained eye and a bit of artistry in themselves, because it’s not the same to perform liposuction on a male and female body. Contouring is different as well as aesthetic goals. Men want to appear more masculine and it takes a lot of precision to contour pectorals with liposuction. On the other hand, women want to keep their feminine contours like nicely shaped waist or thighs. So, proper body contouring with liposuction isn’t easy – and it really takes a lot of experience.
Another thing, plastic surgeons need to demonstrate safety practices to get that board certification, so getting it is not something that happens overnight.
So, choose a plastic surgeon who is patient and creative or simply put – knows what he/she is doing.
10. WILL LIPOSUCTION REDUCE CELLULITE?
We all have cellulite dimples (especially women). This pesky skin condition, which is sometimes called cottage cheese or orange peel, seems to like being stuck just underneath our skin. If you are thinking about liposuction, of course, the possibility of reducing cellulite with it crossed your mind. But if you thought that you would kill two flies with one slap – you wouldn’t.
Let’s discuss why.
Liposuction can do wonders for your body in terms of contouring it, but unfortunately, it can’t eliminate cellulite.
It simply doesn’t work that way. Liposuction eliminates only the stubborn fat pockets that you have for example on your outer thighs, but it can’t make your skin smooth and dimple-free.
Cellulite is different from fat. It starts to occur underneath your skin when bands of fibrous tissue that lie between your muscles and your skin, start to pull your skin down. And this creates that dimpled appearance on your skin. So, cellulite happens because of problems in the skin’s structure.
Anyway, women have bigger problems with cellulite than men because their bands are thin and vertical. When body areas that are prone to developing cellulite, accumulate more fat, that’s the moment when these bands stretch and pull the skin. Men are not free from cellulite but their bands are thicker and diagonal, so if they accumulate more fat, they create a kind of pattern that keeps the fat in its place and doesn’t pull the skin as much.
So, accumulated fat deposits contribute to the worsening appearance of cellulite. And once you eliminate those fat deposits on your thighs and buttocks, you can improve cellulite just a little bit, but not entirely.
But in some cases, laser-assisted and ultrasound-assisted liposuctions can help with cellulite because they simultaneously firm the skin and remove the fat.
Or, you can combine liposuction with lift surgeries, like leg lifts. In that case, the surgeon removes the fat and excess skin to make the treated area smooth and firm.
And finally, you can opt for non-invasive cellulite removal treatment. There are different options you can choose from at Lucia Clinic – one of them is EMTONE treatment.
EMTONE firms and smooths your skin with safe RF energy. It triggers collagen and elastin production and it simply tightens your skin. This greatly reduces problems with cellulite and gives you even better results after liposuction.
So, as you can see, you can find a suitable solution at Lucia Clinic for the removal of cellulite.
11. CAN LIPOSUCTION MAKE ME SKINNY?
This would be awesome, but in reality, lipo isn’t a weight loss treatment. It can’t significantly lower your weight, but it can motivate you to do that on your own.
So what can liposuction do?
Okay, liposuction won’t make you skinny, but it will give you nice contours and eliminate stubborn fat pockets on the treated area. You already know that delicate areas like your chin or neck sometimes don’t respond to exercise or diet – you simply can’t get rid of that pesky fat and get a nicely contoured jawline or neck. Liposuction can do so much for you in this case, provided that you go to a plastic surgeon who is really precise and experienced.
Another thing is that those stubborn fat pockets are sometimes genetically predetermined. This means that you are bound to accumulate more fat on your abdomen or develop saddlebags on your outer thighs – that’s simply the nature of your body and how it distributes fat cells. Liposuction is a quick solution in these cases because it gives you better-shaped legs or abs.
How can liposuction help you lose weight?
Now, the answer to this question is a bit tricky – most people think that once they are through with the surgery that’s it. They have lost weight.
Actually, liposuction helps you to stay at your desired weight. And that’s not because of what happened to your body after liposuction but because it changes the way you perceive your body.
You see, a lot of people are comfortable with fat pockets in some body areas. But if they invest a lot of time in sweating in the gym or eating a balanced diet and they don’t see the expected results, they tend to give up, because it’s not worth it. That’s the moment when they start packing on those extra kilos.
Once they decide to have liposuction, they can contour those stubborn areas and actually get the body they have been working so hard to get. That’s the moment when you change that negative thoughts, like exercising and dieting weren’t worth it, and you realize that it actually meant a lot for your overall health and fitness.
After liposuction, you get motivated to continue with healthy lifestyle habits because they are so important both for your looks and for your health.
You lose even more weight when you continue to exercise and feel and look great.
So, even though liposuction can’t make you skinny, it can make you happy with the way you look and help you stay on the right track with your health. And that’s all that matters.
12. WILL LIPOSUCTION LEAVE SCARS?
Since liposuction is a surgery, it does leave scars but this doesn’t mean that the scars are huge or visible. Working with an experienced plastic surgeon won’t lead you to worry about unsightly scars.
Let’s see why.
When you are having liposuction, your plastic surgeon creates several small holes in strategic locations (strategic means not visible) that leave very small scars. But the scars fade fast and others can’t really see them because your super precise plastic surgeons placed them in those discreet places.
Right after your liposuction, these holes start to heal and develop a scab. This is completely normal. When the scab falls off, it leaves a tiny white scar. The healing of the incisions usually takes 1 to 2 weeks. As time passes, the scars slowly fade.
Now, this is the best outcome because this liposuction was done by a super-experienced plastic surgeon.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO CHOOSE THE BEST PLASTIC SURGEON WHEN IT COMES TO SCARS?
Because when you go to an experienced plastic surgeon, you are in good hands. This means that there is a minimal risk that you will be left with scars that are unexpected and unsightly.
As we said, minimal scars will be there, but they won’t be visible to the naked eye.
So, what happens if you go to a less experienced plastic surgeon?
Simply this – an inexperienced plastic surgeon may make the incisions in an obvious place, and increase the chances of the scars being much more visible later. You definitely don’t want that.
Or, if a less experienced plastic surgeon does the liposuction underneath the incisions, those scars might be depressed or look like little dents in your skin. So you definitely want to avoid that!
Finally, if a surgeon uses a larger cannula and makes more passes through the treated area than necessary, he or she will cause a lot of bruising. The scars that develop after this can get dark or hyperpigmented. Now, you can treat these scars later and correct them, but it’s better not to get them in the first place.
In order to avoid leaving unnecessary or unexpected scars, experienced plastic surgeons ask you during consultations about your history with scars. If for example, you have a history of developing keloidal scars you need to share this with your plastic surgeon. Also, the plastic surgeon will take a look at your skin carefully and then determine if you will have some problematic scars after liposuction.
Keloidal scars are something that can’t be predicted. They are raised red scars that don’t fade. They look a bit nasty and happen even if you have a small cut. But there is a solution for these scars if they develop after liposuction. You can treat keloidal scars with cryotherapy or laser therapy. But, as already said, they rarely develop.
HOW LARGE ARE THE INCISIONS?
The incisions that your plastic surgeon makes to perform liposuction are very small – 3 to 4 milimeters. You will get several incisions, at least two of them. It all depends on the area that you’re treating.
The plastic surgeon inserts a cannula or a very thin instrument that suctions the fat out. These thin tubes are advanced and super precise, so they target only the unwanted fat. The surrounding tissue is minimally harmed. With less damage to the tissue, there is less bleeding, swelling, bruising and so the recovery period is much shorter. And, finally, the scars are minimal.
If you are still concerned about scarring after liposuction, talk about it with your plastic surgeon. Tumescent liposuction, for example, is very safe and minimally invasive and when it is done by an experienced plastic surgeon, the risk of unexpected scars is minimal.
After liposuction, your plastic surgeon will explain how to treat your incisions at home and how to reduce the visibility of your already tiny scars.
13. ARE LIPOSUCTION RESULTS PERMANENT?
This may be one of the first questions that you ask your plastic surgeon. So, let’s answer it right away – yes, they are permanent. But there is a twist.
Once you eliminate those pesky localized fat pockets that won’t budge no matter how much you exercise, you will feel and look great. One of the awesome benefits of liposuction (and this benefit will make you happy) is that it gives you permanent results. And you can enjoy these results forever if you continue with a healthy lifestyle.
Liposuction is a great solution for body contouring but you need to keep that awesome-looking body, right?
When the surgeon performs your liposuction, he/she breaks apart fat cells and then sucks them out. But, the surgeon leaves a little bit of fat behind because a little fat is necessary for proper contouring. The removed fat can’t grow back so that’s why liposuction gives you long-lasting results.
But this is where that twist kicks in – you need to keep a stable weight. If you gain a lot of weight after liposuction, these new fat cells will accumulate somewhere else, and you won’t be satisfied with the results anymore.
So, during your consultation with a plastic surgeon, you will find out which liposuction will be the best for you and your aesthetic goals. And once you see the results of your liposuction you will definitely want to prolong the effects of the surgery with regular exercise and a proper diet.
14. HOW CAN I RECOVER SUPER FAST AFTER LIPOSUCTION?
Once you’re done with liposuction your healing period starts. You come home and know that it will take some time to feel fit enough to do all your normal activities. But here are some tips to get you there faster.
STAY HYDRATED
During liposuction you lose a lot of fluids so you need to make up for it by drinking plenty of water and other fluids (except alcohol, naturally).
JUST TAKE SHOWERS AT FIRST
You can take a shower 24h post-op, but avoid taking a bath, or using hot tubs and a jacuzzi. Also, don’t go swimming because you can catch an infection since your wounds haven’t healed yet.
TAKE YOUR MEDICINES REGULARLY
Your plastic surgeon will prescribe you some pain medications and antibiotics, so take them on a regular basis to feel better sooner.
GET LYMPHATIC MASSAGES
Of course, only if you think it’s necessary. These massages can be taken after two weeks and they really help with swelling reduction.
All other tips and recommendations for your post-op aftercare, you will get from your surgeon. Make sure to stick to them and you will recover properly and quickly.
15. WHEN CAN I GO BACK TO WORK AFTER LIPOSUCTION?
Okay, so you know that you need to take some time off work after liposuction. You need to recover properly and rest. So, to be able to feel fit and go back to work again you first need to heal for some time.
For how long – it all depends on many factors.
We are all different in terms of our bodies and healing processes. Your post-op recovery depends on the extent of liposuction you just had and also on the treated body area.
Most patients are fit enough to go back to work after 3 to 5 days if they have an office job or other sedentary work.
For patients who have more physically active jobs then it’s better to wait for at least a week, before going back.
So, according to the kind of job you do you can now do the math and see how long it will take for you to go back to work. Anyway, when you actually think about it, one week is not that long, so if you need more time to feel fit enough to start working again, stay at home for that entire week.
Remember that for the best liposuction results you need to follow your surgeon’s recommendations to properly recover after the surgery.
The good thing is that you can return home the same or the following day after the surgery.
Just don’t forget to arrange for someone to drive you home, especially if you had liposuction under general anesthesia.
You will be a bit tired and groggy and definitely not fit to drive.
Another good thing is that you will be functional after 2 to 3 days post-op. You should take light walks on the second day because it will be good for your body in a way that will help reduce the swelling and avoid forming blood clots. So, don’t spend all your time in bed, but feel free to stroll around the house. Of course, don’t overdo it and take a break.
Remember to listen to your body and only do what you feel like doing.
16. WHEN CAN I START EXERCISING AFTER LIPOSUCTION?
So, you are finished with your liposuction surgery and your recovery has started. You feel better and fit enough to go back to work. And then you start thinking about going to the gym because your surgeon has told you that you should keep the results with a proper fitness regime. But don’t be hasty – take your time to fully recover to start lifting those weights.
The moment when you can start exercising depends again on the extent of the liposuction and the treated area. If your liposuction was extensive and you had it on your abdominal region, then you can expect to have swelling and water retention for 2 to 3 weeks. During that time, it’s not a good idea to exercise vigorously. Take just light exercises like walking to help lessen the swelling and lose the accumulated water – as mentioned in the previous chapter.
After 2 to 3 weeks, you can create your fitness regime. First, you can start with light aerobic exercises and then slowly include toning exercises.
After 6 weeks, you are free to get those muscles pumping with more strenuous exercises. To keep yourself nicely shaped after liposuction, you can combine cardio and abs exercises. For cardio, go swimming, running, cycling or whatever you like. For toning exercises, you can lift weights and do sit-ups and squats, but again pay attention to your comfort level.
So adopting a proper fitness regime helps you make the most out of your liposuction surgery – making sure that those pesky fat deposits never return again.
But, as we said in the first week post-op, just take it easy and give your body enough time to heal. Then you will be more than satisfied with the results.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO EXERCISE AFTER LIPOSUCTION?
We already said several times that exercising after liposuction will keep your newly shaped contours nice and firm and you will avoid the accumulation of fat again. And next to exercise, a proper diet will keep you healthy and fit. But, let’s get a bit more serious and talk about what can happen to your body if you don’t break a sweat after liposuction.
You don’t have to be overweight to get liposuction. Actually, you should be close to your ideal weight and stubborn fat on your abdomen, for example. After liposuction, you lose all that fat and feel and look great. And then you start with your fitness regime because exercising is not beneficial just for keeping your abs firm and toned – it is beneficial for your overall health.
You see, the problems start very soon if people choose not to follow their fitness regime after liposuction and continue with their sedentary lifestyle. After just 6 months post-op, these people can accumulate fat in other body areas but what’s even worse, is that fat can wrap around organs in the abdomen. This fat is called visceral fat and can lead to changes in metabolism, and cause diabetes or heart diseases.
That’s why it’s vital to stay active after liposuction.
You can reduce even more fat in your body, get physically fitter and strengthen your endurance. So, your entire quality of life improves.
To conclude, liposuction is a great way of getting a leg up in achieving the looks you have always desired, but exercise and a proper diet will help you keep that gorgeous body.
17. WHY DO LIPOSUCTION AND FAT GRAFTING WORK SO WELL TOGETHER?
If you want a double benefit from your plastic surgery, this is where you get it. Liposuction plus fat grafting is a brilliant combination – you lose fat where you need and you add it where you want. And that’s so amazing.
This is where science and development in the plastic surgery department really show breakthroughs. Imagine that you can slim your abdomen and accentuate your abs and increase the size of your breast or buttocks. Or even rejuvenate your face with small droplets of fat added to strategic places. That’s all possible with these two procedures.
So, the first step is liposuction. Your plastic surgeon suctions out the stubborn fat from your area of concern. This fat is then purified and prepared for the next step – fat grafting. This is where your plastic surgeon shows his/her artistry – the extracted fat is carefully injected into the area you wish to enlarge.
Heard of a BBL procedure? Well, that’s fat grafting of your buttocks. If you want it round, full and nicely shaped, you can get it with your own fat extracted from another area. This procedure is safe in terms of side effects because it’s your own fat that is used, so there is no chance of infection.
Liposuction plus fat grafting really is a win-win procedure. It slims some contours and enhances others – it’s all up to you. For that perfect hourglass figure, these two procedures can bring you amazing results.
18. WHEN CAN I FLY AFTER LIPOSUCTION?
Okay, here you may have two scenarios. First, you live in Europe for example, but you want to have your liposuction done by plastic surgeons at Lucia Clinic. So you need to fly to Dubai for your surgery. The second scenario is that you want to fly to some exotic place on vacation and finally feel confident about your newly shaped body.
Let’s discuss what you can expect after liposuction in terms of flying again.
For the first scenario, thumbs up to you if you have decided to fly to Dubai and get your lipo done by expert plastic surgeons at Lucia Clinic. It’s not unusual to fly to another continent if you know that your results will be as you expected. Many people do it so medical tourism is a real thing. And people never regret it because it goes a long way to have their surgeries done by surgeons they can really trust.
So, if you have decided to do it, it’s normal that you are thinking about when you will be able to fly back home. The moment you are free to fly depends on how extensive your liposuction was.
If you had done it on some smaller area, like your neck and under local anesthesia, then you can probably fly home after just a few days. But your surgeon needs to give you a green light for that.
If you had your liposuction under general anesthesia and it was a more extensive procedure, then you can fly after 2 to 4 weeks. Again your surgeon will recommend when you can fly because it depends on how fast you are recovering and getting fit enough to travel.
That’s all because of the risk of blood clots which are rare but may be a concern when it comes to flying. Also, as air pressure changes during a flight, that may cause increased swelling. You can discuss all this during your initial consultation with your plastic surgeon and don’t forget to mention if you have a history of blood clots. Your surgeon will know then what to tell you about flying.
For the second scenario, or flying on vacation after liposuction, you should wait for at least a whole month or a bit more to fly. That’s simply because you want your body to fully heal before you wear that dream bikini or other swimsuit. You don’t want to show the potential residue of swelling, redness or other possible side effects. You already know that you need at least a week to become fully functional after liposuction.
So, before you fly on vacation, give your body enough time to properly recover. Then you will enjoy your vacation more and really feel and look great.
That’s it. I hope these facts cleared some misconceptions you had about liposuction.
